Max Landis is an American screenwriter, director, producer and extra. His screenwriting works include Bright (2017), Victor Frankenstein (2015) and Chronicle (2012). He executed the series Zero Channel (2016-) and Dirk Gentle’s Integral Detective Agency (2016-17). He also writes for DC Comics and Image Comics. Landis was born on August 3, 1985 in Beverly Hills, California. His father John Landis was a director, and his mother Deborah Nadulman Landis was a costume designer. He has an older sister named Rachel. Landis attended Beverly Hills High School, followed by Miami University. He dropped out of school in 2008 and went to Los Angeles to continue his filmmaking career.

Landis started writing scripts when he was a teenager. He co-wrote the 2005 series “Deer Girl” for the Showtime series of horror masters. He wrote an episode of “Something Bites” for the anthology series “Fear itself”. Landis wrote the script for the science fiction thriller Chronicles (2012). The film is directed by Josh Trunk, starring Dane De Haan, Alex Russell and Michael B. Jordan. Its box office revenue was $126 million. Landis’ directorial debut is the comedy film “I Am Her” (2015). He wrote the film “American Super” (2015) starring Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart and Victor Starring James McAvoy and Daniel Radcliffe Frankenstein (2015). He directed Ariana Grande’s 2015 music video “The Last Time”.
Landis wrote, directed and produced the short film “Wrestling Is Not Wrestling” (2015). He wrote and served as the executive producer of the films “Mr. Right” (2016) and “Bright” (2017). He was the executive producer of the TV series Channel Zero (2016-) and Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency (2016-17). His upcoming projects include the movie “The American Werewolf in London”. In addition to writing/directing, Landis also starred in some acting roles. His screen works include The Stupids (1996) with Tom Arnold, the Bruce Brothers 2000 (1998) with Dan Aykroyd, and Burke and Hale (2010) with Simon Page. He also appeared in the web series “Hell Trailer”, “Film Wars” and “The Worst of Best”.
Landis has created comics for well-known publishers such as DC Comics and Image Comics. In 2008, he contributed to TidalWave Productions’ “Back to the Mysterious Island” comedy series. He wrote the 7th mini-series “American Werewolves in London” for DC Comics. He contributed to Image Comics’ medieval fantasy series “Green Valley”. Landis self-published “Scars No One Can See: Jepsen Mode” in 2017. He is currently working on “Superman: Agents of Batman” for DC Comics.
