Matt Platt was born in Mayfield Heights, Ohio, and attended Estero High School in Estero, Florida. While at Estero, he was an All-State Second Team, All-Conference First Team and Southwest Florida First Team.
He went on to play college football for the University of Central Florida. He led the nation in shooting as a sophomore and tied the school’s shooting record with 50 by the time he graduated. He signed with the Detroit Lions in 2006 and then with the Miami Dolphins and Atlanta Falcons in 2007. In 2008, he signed with the Denver Broncos and seemed to be making strides. Since signing the Broncos, he has been named a player of the week for the AFC special team three times and a player of the month once. He was a 2013 Pro Bowl tryout and 2013 AFC Champion. On December 8, 2013, he set the NFL record for longest field goal with a 64-yard field goal. He also set the NFL record for most points in a single season with 75 points.
