He was forced to resign in 2017 on allegations of sexual harassment. Early life and career start
Matthew Todd Lauer was born on December 30, 1957 in New York City. His mother Marilyn Lauer is a boutique owner, and his father Jay Robert Lauer is an executive of a bicycle company. He studied at Ohio University and dropped out of school after being hired at WOWK-TV in Huntington, West Virginia in 1979 to continue his television career. There, his first job was as a producer for the noon news broadcast, and by 1980, he had become a live reporter for their 6pm and 11pm news broadcast. In the end, Raul returned to Ohio University to complete his undergraduate degree and graduated in 1997 at the age of 39.

After the start of WOWK-TV, he participated in many shows. These include the joint TV series “PM Magazine”, which he co-hosted in Richmond (1980-1981), Providence (1981-1984) and New York City (1984-1986). After the New York edition of PM Magazine was cancelled in 1986, Raul produced the “Made in New York” program for WNYW TV, even though it only aired for 15 weeks.

NBC dismissal and sexual assault allegations
In November 2017, after an unidentified female NBC employee reported that Raul had sexually harassed her during the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, NBC News announced the termination of Raul’s employment relationship with them. She also reported that the harassment continued after they returned to New York from Russia. In the next few days, more allegations were made public, and NBC finally admitted three other cases that occurred between 2000 and 2007.

Matt Lauer married TV producer Nancy Alspo from 1982 to 1988, but the marriage ended in divorce. He dated Kristen Gesswein, another TV news announcer, until 1996, and married Dutch model Annette “Jade” Roque in 1998. Rock appeared in Revlon’s “The World’s Most Unforgettable Women Wearing Revlon” ad. The two separated briefly during Rock’s third pregnancy in 2006, but after Rock initially filed for divorce, they reconciled their differences. Following Raul’s 2017 sexual harassment allegations, the couple separated and began divorce proceedings. In July 2019, it was revealed that Raul had agreed to pay Rock a $20 million divorce agreement, and the divorce was completed on September 7, 2019.

Over the years, Matt divided his time between his New York City apartment and the Hamptons house. His most recent New York apartment was bought in 2004 for $5.9 million. He sold the property for $7.4 million in 2018.
In Hampton, Matt owns many properties. In 2016, he sold a humble bay house in Southampton for $3.6 million. In the same year, a two-family house was purchased in Sag Harbor for US$36.5 million. The seller is Richard Gere. Gere bought the property for US$6.9 million in 2005, then underwent extensive renovations, and at one time sought US$70 million. At the time of writing, Matt still owns a 25-acre property near Sag Harbor. The property has an 8,000-square-foot house that was listed for sale for US$18 million, but has since fallen to US$12.75 million.
He also owns a 16,000-acre ranch in New Zealand, which he and Annette Roque purchased for US$9 million in 2017. After his sexual assault allegations were made public, a New Zealand government agency called the Overseas Investment Office investigated whether Raul violated the “good character test for foreign buyers.” When he purchased the land, there were no public accusations. Foreign buyers of large tracts of land must pass an extensive and vague “good character” test before being approved for purchase. Government officials finally concluded that they did not have enough evidence to prove that they did not pass the test today.
