Mary Tyler Moore is an award-winning American actress, producer and television personality. Her performance credits include The Mary Tyler Moore Show, The Dick Van Dyke Show, and Ordinary People. Moore was born on December 29, 1936, in Brooklyn, New York, to parents Marjorie and George. She has two siblings, John and Elizabeth. Moore spent her childhood in Flushing, Queens, before moving to Los Angeles at age 8. She graduated from Sacred Heart High School.

Moore began working in the entertainment industry as an advertising dancer in the mid-1950s. Her most memorable part was a dancing elf named “Happy Hotpoint” for Hotpoint appliances. In 1980, Moore won a Tony Award for his role in the Broadway play Whose Life Is This Anyway? She voiced the character “Grandma Rose” in the Italian animated film How Toys Save Christmas (1996).
