Barnes attended Providence Central High School and Providence College. Barnes became the first player to hit 10 field goals in 10 NCAA playoff appearances.
He led the nation in rebounding during the 1973-74 season and broke the school’s single-game record in 1973 with 52 points. He was also a consensus first-team All-American in 1974. 1974 NBA draft by the Philadelphia 76ers. He was also selected by the St. Louis Spirit in the 1974 ABA draft. He chose to play for the ABA’s Spirits from 1974 to 1976 before moving to the NBA for the Detroit Pistons, Buffalo Warriors, Boston Celtics and San Diego Clippers. Barnes is an ABA Rookie of the Year and a two-time ABA All-Star. He has played for Italy’s Hurlingham Trieste, as well as the CBA’s Detroit Spirit, Ohio Mix and Evansville Thunder.
