Martin Shkreli is an American business executive, entrepreneur and investor. He is also a convicted felon. During his tenure as CEO of Turing Pharmaceuticals, he was known for raising drug prices. Shkreli was born on March 17, 1983 in Brooklyn, New York. He attended Hunter College High School, followed by Bernard Baruch College. Graduated from Business Administration in 2005.

Shkreli started working as a partner at Cramer Berkowitz at the age of 17. He worked for the company for four years, helping them forecast stocks. He worked briefly at Intrepid Capital Management before starting his own hedge fund, Elea Capital Management, in 2006. He co-founded MSMB Capital Management in 2009 and Retrophin LLC in 2011. He resigned from Retrophin in 2014 and was sued by the company for $65 million in 2015. Shkreli founded Turing Pharmaceuticals in February 2015 with the goal of obtaining expired medicines and repricing them. He infamously raised the price of “Daraprim” from $13.50 a piece to $750 overnight.

Martin Shkreli is 5 feet 5 inches tall, of Albanian and Croatian descent. His net worth is about $50 million. In March 2015, he donated $1 million to his former high school. Shkreli was arrested in December 2015 for securities fraud. He was released after posting $5 million bail. In August 2017, he was convicted in federal court of three counts of fraud. He was sentenced to seven years in federal prison on March 9, 2018.
