Early life and club career start: Martin Braithwaite was born in 1991. His father is of Guyanese descent and has a sister named Mathilde who plays for KoldingQ and the Danish U-16 national women’s football team. When Braithwaite was five years old, he was diagnosed with childhood hip disease.
After starting work at the Sædding-Guldager Idrætsforening Sports Academy, Braithwaite joined Esbjerg fB, the largest club in his city. Braithwaite joined Spanish CD Leganes on loan at the start of the January 2019 transfer window. On his debut, he replaced Guido Carrillo in the final 26 minutes as the club beat SD Huesca. Braithwaite scored his first goal for the club in a home win over Real Madrid four days later. He finished the season with four goals and 19 league appearances. In February 2020, Barcelona triggered Braithwaite’s release clause and signed him to a four-and-a-half-year contract. Braithwaite made his debut at home against Eibar just two days later.
