Marni Nixon is an American soprano singer and actress. On February 22, 1930, she rose to fame as a broadcast singer in films such as “West Side Story” and “The King and the First.” Her parents are Charles and Margaret. Nixon started out as a child star and sang chorus. She has studied singing and opera since she was a child.
Profession
Nixon made his voice actor debut in the 1948 film “Joan of Arc.” She then voiced Big City (1948), Secret Garden (1949) and Gentlemen Like Blondes (1953). She starred in the 1954 musical comedy The Girl in the Pink Bodysuit. Nixon worked with several actresses including Deborah Kerr and Sophia Loren. She voiced Natalie Wood in West Side Story (1961) and Audrey Hepburn in My Fair Lady (1964). Due to her many unknown roles, she was called “the most ghostly woman” by Time magazine.
As an actress, Nixon made her film debut in the 1965 musical The Sound of Music. Other films include I Think I Do (1997) and Mulan (1998). Her stage honors include James Joyce’s Dead, Stupid and 70, 70 Girls. Nixon received the Singer Symposium Distinguished Artist Award in 2008.
