She worked as a maid at the shrine for five years, and founded her organization consulting company when she was studying at Tokyo Women’s Christian University when she was 19 years old. Today, her movement, known as the KonMari Method, revolves around the concept of “inspiring happiness” with your daily activities and possessions. For example, Mary teaches that people should only keep one piece of clothing that immediately “inspires happiness” emotionally. She teaches people to sort and collect their own objects, and only keep the objects that are meaningful and happy to the owner. She is a frequent guest on shows such as “Good Morning America” and “Today Show”. She married Kawahara Takumi and had two children. Marie and Takumi got married in 2012. Today Takumi serves as the CEO of their company KonMari Media, LLC.
