Manuel Negrete was born in March 1959 in Altamirano, Mexico. He is a midfielder who started his career with the UNAM Cougars in 1979. He played for Puma until 1986, playing 215 games and scoring 53 goals.
He played for Sporting in 1986 and Sporting Gijón in 1987. From 1987 to 1990, he played for the UNAM Puma again, making over 117 appearances and scoring 39 goals. From 1990 to 1991 he played for CF Monterrey, then again from 1991 to 1992 for the UNAM Puma, this time in 38 caps for the national team, scoring 11 goals. From 1992 to 1993 he played for Atlante Football Club and from 1993 to 1994 for Toros Neza. He played for CF Acapulco from 1994 to 1995 and ended his career with Atlante FC from 1995 to 1996. Negrete also represented Mexico in international competitions from 1981 to 1990. He played in the 1986 FIFA World Cup, where he scored one of the most spectacular goals in World Cup history.
