Mahershala Ali is an Oscar-winning American film and television actor. His performance credits include “Moonlight,” “Crossing Jordan,” “4400,” and “House of Cards.” Ali was born on February 16, 1974 in Mahershalalhashbaz Gilmore, Oakland, California. His mother, Willicia, was an ordained minister, and his father, Philip, was a Broadway actor. Ali attended St. Mary’s College in California on a basketball scholarship. He graduated in 1996 with a BA in Mass Communication. He received his MFA in Performing Arts from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts in 2000.
