Mae Jemison is an American doctor and NASA astronaut. She became the first African American woman to enter space. She entered space on the “Endeavour” with six other astronauts on September 2, 1992. Due to her achievements, she received multiple awards and honorary doctorates.

Jamison was born in Decatur, Alabama on October 17, 1956 to Charlie Jamison and Dorothy Green. She has two siblings “Charles” and “Ada”. She grew up in Chicago, Illinois and attended Morgan Park High School. She received a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering in 1977 and a doctorate in medicine in 1981. From 1985 to 1987, she worked as a Peace Corps medical officer for two years. She was accepted into the astronaut training program by NASA in 1987.

Jamison has appeared in many TV shows. She made a cameo appearance in 1993’s Star Trek: The Next Generation. She appeared in the 2005 documentary “How William Shatner Changed the World” and the 2006 PBS TV miniseries “The Life of African Americans.”

Mae Jemison is 5 feet 9 inches tall and rules under Libra. Her net worth is US$2 million. She founded the Jamison Group in 1993 and subsequently founded the Dorothy Jamison Foundation for Excellence. Jamison was inducted into the National Women’s Hall of Fame in 1993. She is also the recipient of the NASA Space Flight Medal.
