Luke Kuechly is a retired American professional football player for the Carolina Panthers. He’s 6-foot-3 and plays linebacker. Luke August Couchley was born on April 20, 1991 in Cincinnati, Ohio. His parents are Eileen and Tom Kuechly. He has two brothers, John and Henry. Kuechly attended St. Xavier High School in Finneytown and then Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts. Kuechly’s interest in football dates back to fourth grade. While he initially wanted to play defense, he ended up playing linebacker and safety at St. Xavier. Kuechly led the team to a 15-0 record in the Ohio Division I championship in 2007. He recorded 130 tackles, three forced turnovers and one interception in his senior year. At St. Xavier, he was twice elected to the National Catholic League. Kuechly continued his football career with the Boston College Eagles from 2009 to 2011. He is a 2-time All-American and a 3-time All-ACC First Team. Kuechly won the Jack Lambert and Lombardi Award in 2011. He was also named ACC Athlete of the Year.
Kuechly was selected by the Carolina Panthers with the ninth overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft. He signed a rookie contract in May 2012 and made his NFL debut in September 2012. Couchley was named NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2012 and NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2013. He was named to the 2014 Pro Bowl as they beat the Indianapolis Colts. Kuechly is a 5-time All-Pro First Team, 2-Time All-Pro Second Team and a 3-time Butkus Award winner. After eight seasons with the Panthers, he retired at the end of the 2019 season.
