Louis Armstrong Net Worth: Louis Armstrong is an American jazz trumpeter and singer who has a net worth of $10 million. Louis Armstrong (August 4, 1901 – July 6, 1971) was born into a very poor family in New Orleans, Louisiana. The grandson of a slave, Armstrong spent his childhood and youth in extreme poverty, especially after his father got away with another woman.
So Louis and his little sister Beatrice were raised by their mother and grandmother. Already feeling the hardships of life, Louis dropped out of school at 11 to earn money to support his family by singing in a quartet of boys performing on the street. This year, Armstrong was introduced to the cornet for the first time by cornet player Bunker Johnson. But that’s also when he started to get into trouble. After spending time with troubled children, he continued to work during the day and develop his musical skills at night. He even played with a local jazz band when he got the chance. Joe “King” Oliver was the first to recognize Louis’ talent. Under the tutelage of the famous cornet player, Louis did various small jobs for Oliver in return. After his mentor traveled to Chicago, then the center of world jazz, Lewis began touring up and down the Mississippi on a steamboat. This helped him hone his skills and even learn how to read music. In 1922, Lewis traveled to Chicago to join Oliver’s band, where he played for two years. In 1924, Lewis had traveled to New York at the request of famous New York bandleader Fetcher Henderson. There he switched to playing the trumpet and developed a dynamic and creative style that caught the attention of the New York jazz scene. In fact, no one could play like Luis at the time!
Soon he was back in Chicago, playing with his Hot Five and Hot Seven, creating hits like “Potato Head Blues,” “Muggle,” and “West End Blues.” The rhythms he created in the process became the standard and the agenda of jazz musicians for many years to come. As for his signature musical genres, they are Dixieland, Jazz, Swing, Traditional Pop. Even though he lived in a deeply racially divided America, Louis Armstrong managed to cross the line and become one of the most famous jazz musicians of the 20th century. On July 6, 1971, Armstrong died in his sleep of a heart attack, and the world lost a great man and a musician of few talents.
