Liam Payne is a British singer, songwriter and member of the popular boy band One Direction. Born on August 29, 1993 in Wolverhampton, England. His mother, Karen, was a nurse, and his father, Jeff, worked for the now-defunct Goodrich Company. He has two sisters, Nicola and Ruth. Payne attended St. Peters College, followed by Wolverhampton City College. He majored in music technology. He also tried trail running and took boxing lessons as a child.

Payne gained early exposure as a member of the performance group Pink Productions. They sing and perform locally. He cited singer Pharrell Williams and Justin Timberlake as his two main influencers. Payne participated in the audition for X Factor Season 5 in 2008. He advanced to the final 24 before being eliminated. He returned to the show in the 7th season of 2010. Payne started his personal career in the summer of 2016. He signed with Capitol Records in July 2016 and signed with Republic Records in October 2016. He also serves as producer under the alias Big Payno. Payne founded his own publishing company, Hampton Music Co., Ltd. in 2014.
