Li Lu’s net worth: Li Lu is a Chinese-American investment banker, investor and fund manager with a net worth of US$200 million. Li Lu was born in April 1966 in Tangshan, Hebei, China. Survived the 1976 Tangshan earthquake and studied at Nanjing University. In 1989, Li Lu participated in the Tiananmen student protests and became one of the student leaders.
Lu helped organize the students and participated in a hunger strike. He left the People’s Republic of China through Operation Yellow Bird. Studied at Columbia University in 1990, published the book “Moving Mountains: My Life in China”, which was adapted into a film in 1994, and worked in investment banking after graduation. In 1997, Lu founded Himalaya Capital Management. From 1998 to 2004, he managed a hedge fund and venture capital fund. He introduced automaker BYD and Chinese batteries to Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger. In 2010, Mr. Lu was responsible for helping to translate and publish the Chinese version of Poor Charlie’s Almanac, The Wit and Wisdom of Charles T. Munger. In 2001, he was named the Global Leader of Tomorrow by the World Economic Forum. Lu is a member of Knovel’s board of directors. He is also a member of the Young Presidents Organization and the Council on Foreign Relations.
