Born Leonard Barnett Davis on September 5, 1978 in Waltham, Texas, he played primarily as a linebacker in his NFL career spanning more than 10 years. Davis entered the University of Texas at Austin on an athletic scholarship, played for the Texas Longhorns, and was recognized as the best player in the nation.
After his senior season, he was selected second overall by the Arizona Cardinals in the 2001 NFL Draft. Since then, he has played for the Arizona Cardinals, Dallas Cowboys, Detroit Lions and San Francisco 49ers. As of today, he is a free agent. He spent his first three years as a guard in the NFL when he made his Arizona Cardinals debut. In 2004, he switched from guard to left tackle, where he went on to play 15 games. Davis parted ways with the Cardinals in 2006, and in 2007 he signed a seven-year, $49.6 million contract with the Dallas Cowboys. Once he moved to Dallas, he also returned to the guard position. 2007 also saw his great game as he made the Pro Bowl for the first time in his career. What’s more, he’s the guy who made the All-Pro Second Team along with former teammate Flozel Adams. But Davis, on the other hand, ranks fifth in the NFL with 42 penalties. The Cowboys had to release him in July 2011 due to his declining performance. Played for the Detroit Lions in 2011 and the San Francisco 49ers the following year, eventually becoming a free agent. Off the field, Leonard Davis is also the bassist for the heavy metal band Free Reign.
