Sanders played his college basketball at Virginia Commonwealth University. During that time, he was named to the Colonial Athletic Association freshman team. He was named to the CAA All-Defensive Team three times and the CAA Defensive Player of the Year twice. Sanders was also an All-CAA Second Team in 2009 and an All-CAA First Team in 2010. He was the 15th overall pick in the 2010 NBA draft by the Milwaukee Bucks. In 2014, he was suspended five games for violating the NBA’s drug policy when he tested positive for marijuana. He later broke the rules again and was suspended for at least 10 games. In 2015, Sanders left his NBA career by buying out the remainder of his contract for about $23 million.
