Kofi Annan is the chairman of The Elders, an organization founded by Nelson Mandela. From February 2012 to August 2012, Annan served as the joint UN-Arab League Special Representative for Syria, helping to find solutions to the ongoing conflict in Syria. Annan, who resigned after dismayed at the lack of progress at the United Nations in resolving the conflict, said: “…the Council continues to blame and blame when the Syrian people desperately need action.” Kofi Annan died on August 18, 2018, died at the age of 80.
