Kirk Franklin is a Grammy Award-winning American gospel singer, songwriter, and record producer. He leads the evangelical groups “One Nation Crew” and “God’s Property”. He was born on January 26, 1970 in Forsworth, Texas. He took piano classes when he was four years old. He joined the Rose Hill Baptist Church Choir and became music director at the age of twelve. He studied music at Oscar Dean Wyatt High School and in 1992 founded the gospel choir “Family”.

Franklin released his debut album “Kirk Franklin and Family” on June 29, 1993. The album was a commercial success, selling more than one million copies and topping the Billboard Gospel chart for 42 consecutive weeks. Whatcha Lookin’ 4, his third and final album as a member of the “Family” chorus, was released in 1996. The album was certified 2x Platinum and earned him his first Grammy. In 1997 he won another Grammy for “The Nu Nation Project” with God’s Property. Franklin debuted as a solo artist in 2001 and released the successful “Hero” album in 2005. He launched his own label, Fo Yo Soul Recordings, in 2013.
