Kid Ink (formerly “Rock Star”) is an American rapper, songwriter, music producer and performer. He signed with RCA Records, Tha Alumni Group and 88 Classic. His full-length projects include Up & Away (2012), My Own Lane (2014) and Full Speed (2015). Since his debut, he has collaborated with artists such as Chris Brown, Meek Mill, Dej Loaf and Fifth Harmony. His name is Brian Todd Collins and he was born on April 1, 1986 in Los Angeles, California. He drew early inspiration from the works of Swizz Beatz, Timbaland and Pharrell Williams. When he was a teenager, he would take after-school music lessons. It enables him to use the necessary tools needed to produce hip-hop beats. His first legally produced work was a track by Nipsey Hussle in 2008.

Collins started using the stage name “Rockstar” in 2009. His first mixtape, World Tour, was downloaded for free in February 2010. This tape caught the attention of DJ Ill Will, and was associated with Tha Alumni Group and 88 Classic. After signing the contract, he changed his nickname from “Rockstar” to “Kid Ink” to prevent confusion with DJ Rockstar, who is also a record company. Kid In has released 3 more mixtapes: Crash Landing (2010), Daydreamer (2011) and Wheels Up (2011). The success of the tape earned him a place in the 2012 XXL freshman class. McMoore, French Montana and Danny Brown also joined his ranks.
Kid Ink’s first studio album Up & Away was released by Tha Alumni Music Group in June 2012. It reached No. 20 and No. 3 on the Billboard 200 and Top R&B/Hip-Hop album charts respectively. The album was supported by the singles “Time of Your Life” and “Lost in the Sauce”. His fifth mixtape Rocketshipshawty was released in November 2012. Kid Ink signed with RCA Records in January 2013. EP, Almost Home, his RCA debut, arrived in May 2013. These include tracks such as “Money and the Power” and “Bad”, starring Meek Mill and Wale. His second studio album My Own Lane was released in January 2014. It sold 50,000 in the first week Zhang, and continues to receive RIAA gold certification. This album features Chris Brown’s singles “Show Me” and “Main Chick.” Tyga, Pusha T and Machine Gun Kelly also wrote guest appearances.
Kid Ink kicked off with his third album Full Speed in 2015, which ranks among the top R&B/Hip-Hop albums and top rap album charts. The album is led by the single “Body Language” starring Tinashe and Usher. Other famous tracks include “Hotel” with Chris Brown, “Dolo” with R. Kelly, and “Be Real” with Dej Loaf. Kid Ink has released two more tapes: Summer and Winter (2015) and RSS2 (2016). His second EP 7 series aired in May 2017. Including the single “F with U” featuring Ty Dolla Sign. In 2018, Kid Ink collaborated with Rich The Kid on the song “No Budget”. He appeared in the single “Vibe” in Dizzy Wright’s EP, don’t tell me it can’t be done (2018).
