Born in South Africa in 1950, Kerr Neilson is an Australian investment manager who started his career in financial management in the investment department of Courtaulds in London.

He returned to South Africa in 1973 and moved to Australia ten years later to become head of retail funds management at Bankers Trust Australia (now known as BT Australia). In 1994, Nelson founded Platinum Asset Management with the initial backing of George Soros. Today as its managing director and portfolio manager, Nielsen is often associated with Warren Buffett for his ability to consistently select stocks that perform well. Back in May 2007, he listed a 20% stake in Platinum Asset Management on the Australian Securities Exchange. He became one of Australia’s richest men after retaining a 57 per cent stake in the company worth an estimated A$2.9 billion. Being Platinum’s major shareholder helped him earn A$42 million in dividends in the 2012 financial year. Other than that, Nelson is a married man with two children. Cole and his wife Judith opened White Rabbit Gallery in Sydney in 2009 to share their extensive collection of Chinese contemporary art with the world.
