Kendrick Lamar is an American rapper and songwriter born in Compton, California. He was born on June 17, 1987, to Paula Oliver and Kenny Duckworth. He grew up on the rough streets of Compton, surrounded by crime and gang activity. Instead of falling victim to circumstances, Lamar used it as a driving force for success. He attended Centennial Middle School. Throughout elementary school, Lamar was known to be very sharp and observant. His love of writing and poetry eventually sparked his interest in music. He adopted the name K-Dot and started showing off his skills as a rapper.

Dr. Dre immediately took him under his wing and signed him with his independent label, Aftermath Entertainment. This took Lamar’s career to the next level.
In 2012, MTV named Kendrick Lamar “Hottest MC,” putting him in uncharted territory. His dominance can’t help but earn the respect of fans and other artists. In 2015, he released his next album, To Pimp a Butterfly. As expected, this version performed surprisingly well. That same year, Lamar was nominated for an astounding 11 Grammy Awards. In 2016, Kendrick Lamar won Best Rap Album. Along with Taylor Swift, he swept the awards show stage, collecting the most Grammys.
