Ken Howard is an American actor and former president of the Screen Actors Guild. He is known for the movie 1776 and the TV series White Shadow. Howard was born to parents Martha and Kenneth on March 28, 1944, in El Centro, California. He grew up in Manhasset, New York, and attended Manhasset High School. He played basketball on the school’s varsity. Howard continued his education at Amherst College, where he also captained the basketball team. He studied briefly at the Yale School of Drama.

Howard began his acting career with small roles on Broadway. His debut was the musical “Promises, Promises”. In 1970, he played the role of “Paul Reese” in the drama children’s play. His performance earned him a Tony Award for Best Supporting Actor. Howard continued his role as “Thomas Jefferson” in the 1776 musical, which he would reprise in the 1972 film adaptation. Other notable Broadway shows include Seesaw, Norman Conquest and 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
Howard’s film debut was in the 1970 drama “Tell Me You Love Me, Juni Moon.” He has since appeared in more than 40 films with top actors including Sylvester Stallone, Harrison Ford, Sandra Bullock and George Clooney. Howard will be remembered for playing “Ken Reeves” on the CBS TV series “White Shadows.” The show premiered on November 27, 1978, and ended in 1981 after a third season. Another notable one is his Emmy-winning series “Grey Gardens” in 2009.
