What is Keith Richards’ net worth?
Keith Richards is a British musician, singer, songwriter and record producer. Keith Richards has a net worth of $500 million. He is best known as a co-founder, guitarist, chorus and one of the Rolling Stones songwriters. As of this writing, The Stones have sold over 200 million records worldwide. To this day, the band continues to tour almost every year. For example, in 2018, the band earned $117 million from just 14 shows. Keith and bandmate Mick Jagger wrote nearly all of the band’s original music.
Early life and career
Richards was born on 18 December 1943 in Dartford, Kent, England, to parents Doris Maud Lydia (née Dupree) and Herbert William Richards only son. His maternal grandfather, Augustus Theodore “Gus” Dupree, was also a musician. He toured the UK with his big jazz band Gus Depree and His Boys, and it was he who nurtured Richards’ interest in music, especially guitar. Dupree was the one who gave Richards his first guitar.
Richards was a childhood friend of Mick Jagger, and the two attended Wentworth Elementary School together. They were even neighbors until the Richards family moved in 1954. Eventually, the two reunited a few years later when Richards met Jagger on a train while Jagger was heading to take classes at the London School of Economics. Jagger took Chuck Berry and Muddy Waters’ Chess Records album, and the two rekindled their friendship over a shared musical interest. They also share a mutual friend, Dick Taylor. Richards met Taylor at the Sidcup School of the Arts, and Jagger met Taylor from their amateur band Little Boy Blue and the Blue Boys, which Richards soon joined. The Blue Boys ended after Brian Jones invited Jagger and Richards to the Bricklayers Arms bar, where they met Ian Stewart and bonded over their mutual interest in blues music.

Outside of the Rolling Stones, Richards has worked on several solo projects. His first solo single, a cover of Chuck Berry’s “Run Rudolph Run”, was released in 1978. After Jagger’s solo career began in 1987, Richards formed the band “X-Pensive Winos” Jordan with co-writer and co-producer Steve. Winos’ first album “Talk Is Cheap” has gone gold since its release, followed by Richards’ first solo US tour. Winos’ second album, “Main Offender,” was released in 1992 and toured. Although Winos is a group effort, in addition to Steven Jordan, there are Waddy Wachtel (guitar), Bobby Keys (saxophone), Ivan Neville (keyboards) and Charley Drayton (bass), both of which are credited Richards as a solo artist. Richards’ third studio album was released in September 2015, titled “Crosseyed Heart”.
Richards is not only a versatile musician, but also a widely recognized production talent. In addition to his production work with Jagger on The Stones, Richards has accumulated numerous production and co-production credits on projects with artists such as Aretha Franklin, Johnnie Johnson, and Ronnie Spector. He even has his own label, Mindless Records, and released the track “Wingless Angels” in 1997, which he co-produced.
In addition to music, Richards also briefly dabbled in show business. Richards played Edward Teague in the third installment of the series after Johnny Depp said his role in the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise was loosely based on Richards and the Warner Bros. cartoon character Pepe Le Pugh The Captain’s Role, “At the End of the World” (2007). He later reprised his role in the fourth “On Stranger Tides” in 2011.

Richards has a reputation for illicit drug use, due in part to a series of drug crackdowns during the late 1960s and 1970s, as well as his own openness about his use of substances such as heroin. He was tried five times on drug-related charges: once in 1967, once in 1973, once in 1977 and once in 1978. In 2016, he said he still occasionally consumes alcohol and marijuana.
From 1967 to 1979, Richards was romantically involved with Italian-born actress Anita Pahlenberg. The couple have a son born in 1969 and a daughter born in 1972. Their third son died on June 6, 1976, just over two months after the birth of sudden infant death syndrome.
Richards and his wife Patty Hansen met in 1979 and were married on December 18, 1983. The couple have two daughters together, born in 1985 and 1986.
Real estate and other assets
Richards has a collection of approximately 3,000 guitars. He owns several properties, including Redlands, a Sussex estate he bought in 1966 for £313,000. Actress Cate Blanchett bought a property near East Sussex for $4.68 million. Richards owns a home in Weston, Connecticut, his primary residence, and a property on Parrot Cay, a private resort island in the Turks and Caicos Islands.
