What is Keith Olberman’s Net Worth?
Keith Olbermann is an American sports and political commentator and author who has a net worth of $25 million. Although Olberman’s career began largely focused on sports, he later leaned more towards politics. During the 1980s, he received several awards and honors for his work as a sports commentator in California. In sports, he is best known for hosting “Sports Central” from 1992 to 1997, and he also served as a producer and anchor for Fox Sports Network and Fox’s coverage of Major League Baseball.
In the 2000s, Keith became a political commentator, first hosting “Countdown with Keith Olbermann” in 2003. He held the position until 2011 and is known as a fierce left-wing theorist, with notable criticism of conservative figures and policies. After leaving the show in 2011, he went on to host a show of the exact same name, although it was aired on Current TV rather than MSNBC.
He covered the 2016 presidential election extensively, and after Trump won, he started hosting a show called “The Resistance of Keith Olberman.” Before leaving ESPN in 2020 to create a new political commentary show on YouTube, Keith went on to host a variety of sports, especially those covering Major League Baseball.
early life
Keith Theodore Olbermann was born on January 27, 1959 in New York City. His father was a successful commercial architect and the family was mainly of German descent. However, Keith later admitted that his family had “a stain on Russian heritage”. Keith has a well-known distaste for the Russian people. Keith grew up in a Unitarian family with a younger sister, in the small town of Hastings-on-Hudson in Westchester County.
From an early age, Oberman had a keen interest in baseball. His original inspiration came from his mother, who was an avid New York Yankees fan. In these early days, Keith struggled to collect baseball cards. He later attended Hackley School, an elite private school and member of the Ivy League Preparatory School League. During Hackley’s tenure, Olberman began working as an announcer on a local news station. He then attended Cornell University at the age of 16 and went on to work at a student-run radio station. Olbermann eventually graduated from Cornell University in 1979 with a BA in Communication from the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
Profession
After leaving college, Keith continued his broadcasting career before joining CNN in its early form. During this time, he covered the Winter Olympics from Lake Placid and worked as a sports anchor and sports announcer in Boston and Los Angeles. In 1992, Olberman officially joined ESPN and became an important part of the “sports center” for the next five years. He became known for hosting the 11pm show with Dan Patrick, a work he later won many honors and accolades for. When he joined ESPN, he actually took a pay cut, as he was reportedly making about $475,000 at KCBS at the time. Although his ESPN starting salary was $150,000, by the time he left, he ended up earning $350,000.
His departure from ESPN was fraught with controversy. Originally, he was suspended for an unauthorized appearance on “The Daily Show.” Next, he left the network entirely in a heated spat with ESPN management. Olberman then joined Fox Sports Network as their new star anchor, serving sows such as National Sports Report, Game of the Week and the Keith Olberman Evening News.

However, his relationship with Fox also ended in controversy after he criticized Fox owner Rupert Murdoch. In 2005, Keith returned to ESPN radio. In 2007, he began hosting “American Football Night” for NBC. He later returned to ESPN again, though he was soon suspended and fired for making controversial comments.
Back in 1997, when Olberman first left ESPN, he ventured into political journalism by hosting “The Big Show with Keith Olberman.” Since then, Olberman has devoted the rest of his career to political commentary and is known for shows such as “Countdown with Keith Olberman” with MSNBC. In 2008, he signed a four-year contract extension with MSNBC, reportedly worth $30 million. During this time, he had a fierce rivalry with Bill O’Reilly. He was then suspended for unauthorized political contributions and eventually left MSNBC after his contract was terminated. Olberman has continued his career as a political commentator through networks such as Current TV and his own YouTube channel.
real estate
In 2007, Keith Olbermann purchased an apartment at Trump Palace. At the time of this purchase, there was nothing particularly controversial about buying an apartment in a 55-story New York building. However, Oberman eventually regretted his decision after Trump took office. By 2016, he had complained loudly that he could “no longer bear living in Trump Tower” because “the extent to which the name ‘Trump’ has degraded public discourse and the country itself.”
Keith originally bought the condo for about $4.2 million. He then decided to sell the home in 2016 and settled on a $3.8 million price. It seems Olberman was so eager to shed any ties to the then-president that he was willing to accept $400,000 in property damage. However, he later said the loss was worth it.
The apartment features 1,750 square feet of living space, a chef’s kitchen and three separate outdoor spaces with stunning views of the city.
