Kehlani Parrish is an American R&B singer and songwriter from Oakland, California. Notable projects include the album SweetSexySavage (2017) and the mixtapes You Should Be Here (2015) and While We Wait (2019). She is currently signed to Atlantic Records. Kehlani was born on April 24, 1995 in Oakland, California. She studied at Auckland College of the Arts, where she developed an early interest in dance. Kehlani wanted to study dance at Juilliard, but a knee injury ended that dream. She eventually turned her attention to singing.

Kehlani started her musical career as a member of the teen pop group PopLyfe. The other band members at the time were Dylan Wiggins, Jaden Wiggins and Ali-Kahn Lochin. PopLyfe started doing local shows in the San Francisco Bay Area. In 2011, the group placed fourth in the sixth season of America’s Got Talent. Shortly after the game, Kehlani parted ways with the band. She struggled for the next two years.

It reached number three on the Billboard and was certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America. Her debut album was supported by the singles “Crzy”, “Distraction” and “Gangsta”. The production team has Pop & Oak, Charlie Heat, Iamsu! and others.

The singles “Honey”, “Touch”, “Already Won” and “Again” were released in 2018. Kehlani’s third mixtape “While We Wait” was released by Atlantic and TSNMI in February 2019. It’s led by “Nights Like This” starring Ty Dolla Sign. Recording artists Musiq Soulchild, Dom Kennedy and 6lack also made cameos on the tape.
