Her honors include two CFDA Fashion Awards for Best Accessories Designer of the Year. Spade was born on December 24, 1962 in Kansas City, Missouri, her original name was Catherine Noel Brosnahan. Her parents are Joan and Earl Francis Brosnahan. She has an older sister named Rita Sappho. Spade studied at Santa Teresa College, followed by the University of Kansas.
