Justin Gatlin is an American sprinter who won an Olympic gold medal. He was born on February 10, 1982, in Brooklyn, New York, to Willie and Janet. Gatlin grew up in Pensacola, Florida, where he attended Woodham High School. He received an athletic scholarship from the University of Tennessee.

Profession
Gatling started as a hurdler in high school. He switched to sprinting in 2000 with the help of two University of Tennessee coaches. Gatlin went on to win six straight NCAA sprint championships. His career was put on hold in 2001 after he tested positive for amphetamines. He was banned for two years by the International Athletics Federation. After a successful appeal, the ban was shortened to one year.

Gatling made his professional debut in 2002. That same year, he was awarded a lucrative endorsement deal with Nike. Gatlin participated in the 2004 Athens Olympics and won gold, silver and bronze medals. He also won gold medals in the 100m and 200m at the 2005 World Championships. In 2006, Gatlin was suspended for four years after testing positive for testosterone. His world record of 9.77 seconds in the 100 meters was cancelled. He was reinstated in the summer of 2010. Gatling won bronze at the 2012 London Olympics behind Usain Bolt and Yohan Black of Jamaica. He plans to compete in the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics.
