What is Julius Peppers’ Net Worth and Salary?
Julius Peppers is a retired American football player with a net worth of $60 million. After becoming a college football player at the University of North Carolina, Peppers was drafted by the Carolina Panthers in 2002. After subsequent stints with the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers, Julius returned to the Panthers before retiring after the 2017-2018 season.
His accomplishments in the NFL are considerable. He was a nine-time Pro Bowl selection, three-time All-Star Second Team and three-time All-Star First Team. He also won the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Award in 2002. He finished the year with 12 sacks, five forced turnovers and one interception in just 12 total games. Later, he was named to the NFL Team of the Decade in the 2000s and 2010s.
early life
Julius Frazier Peppers was born on January 18, 1980 in Wilson, North Carolina. Growing up in nearby Bailey, Julius quickly showed his football talent while playing for the high school team under coach Ray Davis. By his senior year, he was 6-foot-5 and 225 pounds. During high school, Peppers played as a running back and a defensive lineman. He finished his high school career with 3,501 rushing yards and 46 touchdowns. He also won state track and field championships as a high school sprinter.
After high school, Davis attended the University of North Carolina. Although he wore a red shirt as a junior, he quickly established himself as a talented defensive end for Tar Heels. During his sophomore year, he led the nation in quarterback sacks with 15. This was enough to earn him multiple honors and accolades. These include the Chuck Bednarick Award, the Lombard Award and the Bill Willis Trophy.
During his college career, Peppers had 167 tackles, 5 interceptions, 5 forced turnovers and many other accomplishments. He also played on the college basketball team. Later, Peppers donated $500,000 to a scholarship program at the University of North Carolina that supports black students called the Light on the Hill Society Scholarship.
Profession
In 2002, Peppers entered the NFL draft as one of the most sought-after rookies. He was selected second overall by the Carolina Panthers, behind quarterback David Carr. He had an immediate impact on the Panthers, where his passing culminated in a game-winning touchdown in his first game with the Baltimore Ravens. He then had 3 sacks in Game 2 against the Detroit Lions. Unfortunately, Julius’ rookie career was tainted by a substance-abuse suspension with just four games remaining. In his defense, Peppers said a friend gave him some pills to help him fight fatigue. The pills contain an ephedra substance banned by the NFL.

Although Julius battled odd injuries for the next few years, his performances have remained largely consistent. In 2007, he was named the Panthers’ new defensive captain. By 2009, he was ready to leave the Panthers as a free agent. In 2010, he signed a new contract with the Chicago Bears and quickly became an asset to his new team. After several strong seasons, the Peppers began battling plantar fasciitis. He was then released by the Bears who failed to trade him. In 2014, he signed a new contract with the Green Bay Packers and quickly became the first player in NFL history to complete 100 sacks and 10 interceptions.
In 2017, Peppers signed a one-year deal with the Carolina Panthers. After returning to a standing ovation from the home crowd, Julius went on to play two more seasons with the Panthers before retiring after the 2017-2018 season. He finished his career with 716 tackles, 159.5 sacks and many other accomplishments.
Salary and Contract
In 2010, Julius signed a six-year, $91.5 million contract with the Chicago Bears as a free agent, including a guaranteed salary of $42 million. The Peppers signed a three-year contract with the Green Bay Packers in 2014. The deal is worth $30 million, with $8.5 million in the first year and a guaranteed salary of $7.5 million. As of 2018, Julius Peppers’ NFL salary has reached $160 million. That makes him one of the 10 highest-paid NFL players of all time (in terms of salary alone).
real estate
In 2014, Peppers reportedly purchased a new mansion in Florida. The home in Coral Gables cost $5.18 million. It’s 9,100 square feet and features eight bedrooms, a library, a wine cellar and a chef’s kitchen. Years later, the home was reportedly listed for $6.45 million.
The 2016 Peppers North Carolina mansion is still for sale, according to reports. So far, the home has been on the market since 2015. Since then, Julius has tripled the price from the original $3.4 million. It is 8,810 square feet and is located in Mooresville. Peppers originally bought the property in 2006 for $4.18 million, which means that when (or if) he does manage to sell the property, he will certainly lose money on the property.
The five bedroom, Spanish-inspired building sits on 1.4 acres in a luxury community known only as “The Point.” The residence is located at the top of the peninsula, and other highlights include 900 feet of shoreline, a private jetty and other boat facilities. Even after the price cut, the house remained the most expensive listed in “The Point” in 2016.
