Julio Franco was born in August 1958 in the Mayor of Hato, Dominican Republic. He started his MLB career with the Philadelphia Phillies in 1982 and was traded to the Cleveland Indians and then to the Texas Rangers from 1983 to 1988.
Franco played for Texas from 1989 to 1993. He played for the Chicago White Sox in 1994 and the Chiba Rakuten Marines in Japan in 1995. He returned to Major League Baseball from 1996 to 1997, playing for the Cleveland Indians and the 1997 Milwaukee Brewers. Franco went back to the Chiba Rakuten Marines in 1998 and then returned to MLB to play for the Tampa Bay Delrays. In 2000, he returned to Japan again to play for the Samsung Lions. Franco’s MLB career ended with the Atlanta Braves from 2001 to 2005, the New York Mets from 2006 to 2007 and the Atlanta Braves from 2006 to 2007. A three-time All-Star and a five-time Silver Rod winner. Franco was named MLB All-Star Game MVP in 1990 and won the American League batting championship in 1991. He played first base, second base and designated hitter. Franco becomes player-manager of the Ishikawa Million Stars, a semi-professional team in the Baseball Challenge League.
