A member of the Republican Party, Greg was nominated by President Barack Obama to be Secretary of Commerce in the Cabinet, a position he resigned on February 12, 2009. Although he could have run for re-election the following year, he chose not to run. After leaving the political arena, Greg was appointed as an international advisor to Goldman Sachs, a leading New York-based global investment banking, securities and investment management firm. As of May 2013, Judd Gregg was named CEO of the Wall Street lobbying group the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association.
