Joseph Utsler, better known as Shaggy 2 Dope, is an American rapper, record producer, DJ and professional wrestler. Shaggy 2 Dope has a net worth of $13 million. He is best known as a member of the hip-hop duo Insane Clown Posse. Along with Joseph Bruce, also known as Violent J, is the co-founder of Psychopathic Records and Juggalo Championship Wrestling.
Early life and career
Joseph Utsler was born in Wayne, Michigan in 1974. He has an older brother named John and a younger brother named Mike. Utsler is half Polish and half Cherokee. In 1989, at the age of 15, he met Joseph Bruce, a Wolverine native. Utsler, his older brothers John and Bruce were all into rap music at the time, and they formed the JJ Boys. Together they released the single “Party on the Hilltop”. Soon after, the boys renamed their show Inner City Posse and started using the stage names Violent J, 2 Dope and John Kickjazz. They started playing in local nightclubs and released several albums. Then, along with record store owner Alex Abbiss, they established Psychopathic Records in 1991. Inner City Posse went on to release the EPs “Dog Beats” and “Bass-Ment Cuts”.

At the end of 1991, Inner City Posse decided to change its name to Insane Clown Posse. The following year, the group released their debut album, Carnival of Carnage. John Utsler left the group just before that, leaving Insane Clown Posse as a duo of Bruce named Violent J and Joseph Utsler named Shaggy 2 Dope. Throughout the ’90s, the duo released albums “Ringmaster”, “Riddle Box”, “The Great Milenko” and “The Amazing Jeckel Brothers”. As a kid in the ’80s, Utzler started wrestling with his brother John and his friend Joseph Bruce. The boys created two backyard wrestling circles and formed their own promotion to perform in front of family and friends. Utzler returned to wrestling in the ’90s after Utzler and Bruce fell into a hiatus in gang life. He joined the blues’ indie tour and performed under the name Sewer Dwella.
In 1997, Utzler and Bruce hosted their own wrestling show called ICP’s Strangle-Mania Live to a sold-out audience at St Andrew’s Hall. The main event includes the crazy clown team fighting Utzler and Bruce’s friend Chick Boy. Other featured wrestlers include Corporal Robinson, 2 Tuff Tony, King Kong Bundy and Mad Man Pondo.

The year following the live show at Strangle-Mania, Insane Clown Posse was invited by the World Wrestling Federation to perform an entry theme for the wrestling group The Oddities. In addition, Utzler and Bruce were invited to perform live rap on WWF’s SummerSlam show. After the show, they were asked to return to Monday Night Raw’s live broadcast the following night. On the radio, Utzler and Bruce ask if they can wrestle; initiator Vincent McMahon says yes, and the crazy Joker team gets into an argument with the wrestling tag team Headbangers. However, McMahon was forced to part ways when their first game became too intense. Bruce and Utzler were then scheduled for other matches, including one against Steve Austin.
From 1999 to 2000, Utzler wrestled with Joseph Bruce at the World Wrestling Championships. The pair formed two stables and made their debut in a six-man doubles match at Nitro on Monday. Insane Clown Posse continued to wrestle with the Nitro on Monday, facing the likes of Konnan, Public Enemy, Billy Kidman, Lenny Lane, Lodi and 3 Count.
In December 1999, Utsler and Bruce created their own wrestling promotion, Juggalo Championshit Wrestling. After defeating Doink the Clowns, they became the first-ever JCW Tag Team Champions, a title they defended in 2003. The following year, Utsler and Bruce competed in the Total Nonstop Action Wrestling, defeating the likes of Glen Gilbertti and Kid Kash. Utsler and Bruce were so popular that they brought the largest paying crowd in history to Total Nonstop Action Wrestling.
