Jose Aldo is a Brazilian mixed martial artist in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). He is the current UFC Featherweight Champion at 145 pounds. In 2005, he briefly competed at lightweight. Aldo was born Jose Aldo da Silva Oliveira Junior on September 9, 1986 in Manaus, Brazil. Before joining Capoeira, he was an avid footballer. Aldo earned a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under coach Andre Pederneiras. He also holds a black belt from Luta Livre Esportiva. Aldo is also known by the nicknames “Junior” and “Scarface”.

Aldo moved to Rio de Janeiro at the age of 17 to start MMA training. His professional mixed martial arts debut came on August 10, 2004 against Mario Bigola. He eliminated the race by 18 seconds in the first round. From August 2004 to October 2005, Aldo won 7 games in a row. His first loss was against “Luciano Azevedo” in Jungle Fight 5 on November 26, 2005. Aldo made his World Extreme Cage (WEC) debut at WEC 34 on June 1, 2008. He defeated Alexandre Franca Nogueira by TKO in the second round. His first-round KO ‘Rolando Perez’ at WEC 38 was dubbed “the knockout of the night”. He lost to Conor McGregor of Ireland at UFC 194 on December 12, 2015. Aldo bounces back after beating America’s Frankie Edgar at UFC 200. His professional MMA record is 26 wins (14 knockouts) and 3 losses. He lost to “Max Holloway” of the United States at UFC 212 on June 3, 2017.
