Jong Hyun is a Korean singer, songwriter and radio host. He is the lead singer of the K-Pop boy group “SHINee”. His records include Base (2015) and She Is (2016). He also collaborated with the folk song project group “SM the Ballad”. Jonghyun, formerly known as Kim Jonghyun, was born on April 8, 1990 in Jung-gu, Seoul, South Korea. He has an older sister named Jin Sudan. Jong Hyun studied at Chung Woon University, followed by Myongji University. He graduated in 2015 with a master’s degree in film and musical theatre.

Jong Hyun is best known as a member of the K-Pop boy group “SHINee”. The group was established by SM Entertainment in 2008. The other members are On Liu (Lee Jin Ki), Key (Kim Ki Bum), Min Ho (Cui Min Ho) and Tae Min (Lee Tae Min). SHINee’s first Korean album The SHINee World was released in August 2009. Their second album, Lucifer (2010), sold more than 260,000 copies. Their other Korean albums include Odd (2015), 1 of 1 (2016) and The Misconceptions Series (2013). SHINee released 5 Japanese albums under the name of EMI Music Japan. The albums The First (2011) and Boys Meet U (2013) have both received gold certification from RIAJ. Their latest project “Five” was released in January 2017. Jong Hyun also cooperated with the Korean folk song project team “SM the Ballad”. They released two mini albums, Miss You (2010) and Breath (2014).

In addition to SHINee, Jong Hyun also had a solo career. His first solo EP Base was released by SM Entertainment in January 2015. It invited guest artists Zion.T and Younha. EP won the 2016 Golden Disc Award in the “Disk Bonsang” category. Jong Hyun’s first studio album “She Is” was released in May 2016. It ranks first on the Korean Albums Chart and fourth on the American World Albums Chart. The album is released by KT Music. Jong Hyun also released two compilation albums, Story Op.1 (2015) and Story Op.2 (2017). The latter was led by the single “Lonely” starring Taeyeon. He has collaborated with several other artists such as Zhang Liyin, IU and Yan Zhenghua. Jong Hyun served as the host of MBC Radio from July 2014 to March 2017, participating in the show “Blue Night”. His performance won him the 2015 MBC Excellence Award.

Jong Hyun passed away on December 18, 2017 at the age of 27. The official cause of death was suicide by carbon monoxide poisoning. He was found unconscious in an apartment in southern Seoul. His body was taken to the Konkuk University Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Before his death, Jong Hyun sent a series of disturbing text messages to his sister Kim Sudan. She notified the authorities, but it was too late. Jonghyun is 5 feet 8 inches tall and of Korean descent. He has been in contact with actresses Li Yubi and Shin Shijing.
