Jonah Peretti is an American Internet entrepreneur with a net worth of US$100 million. Peretti is probably best known for founding the popular digital media company BuzzFeed, although he also co-founded the Huffington Post.
early life
Jonah H. Peretti was born on January 1, 1974 in Contra Costa County, California. Jonah grew up in Jewish and Italian families in Oakland and attended the University of California after graduating from high school. During college, he studied environmental studies and graduated in 1996. During this period, he also taught computer science courses in a middle school. Later, Peretti attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and completed a graduate degree.
During his time at MIT, he became popular after communicating with Nike executives via e-mail. They rejected his request to print a “sweatshop” on customized shoes. After launching the popular website “BlackPeopleLoveUs.com” and passing the “New York Denial Line” project created by him and his sister Chelsea Peretti, he also gained viral notoriety.

In 2005, Peretti co-founded the Huffington Post with several businessmen and journalists including Arianna Huffington. In 2011, Jonah left the organization after being acquired by AOL for $315 million.
During his tenure at The Huffington Post, Peretti proposed the idea of creating a “boring work network”, which he predicted would cater to a larger audience than the largest cable TV network. At the time, BuzzFeed was valued at $1 billion. In 2016, Buzzfeed raised another 200 million US dollars, this time in the form of NBC Global investment. The total value of this transaction is US$1.7 billion. That year, the company announced annual revenue of 260 million U.S. dollars.
Over the years, Comcast has invested an additional US$400 million in Buzzfeed. According to Jonah himself, in 2018, the company generated more than $100 million in revenue “from business lines that did not even exist in 2017.” In January 2019, despite its annual revenue of US$300 million, Buzzfeed was forced to lay off 15% of its employees due to poor performance. In 2020, Jonah spent $5.2 million to buy a large house in the Los Feliz neighborhood of Los Angeles. He and his wife, blogger Andrea Harner, previously owned a small house worth about $2 million in the same area. Their new home was previously owned by The Killers guitarist/composer Dave Keuning. Famous entertainers Chelsea Peretti (his sister) and Jordan Peel also live in the area.
