Jon English is an Australian singer, songwriter and actor. He was born on 26 March 1949 in Hampstead, London, to parents Sydney and Sheila English. He has three siblings, Janet, Jeremy and Jill. English and his family moved to Australia in 1961. He was 12 at the time. There, he attended Cabramatta High School.
Profession
During high school, his first band, Zenith (1965), played English. He joined the Sebastian Hardy Blues Band in 1967, where he played rhythm guitar and provided vocals. The band covers songs from The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Otis Redding and many others.
In 1972, English had a role in the stage musical “Jesus Christ Superstar.” He starred again in “Judas Iscariot” from 1972 to 1974 and again in 1975 and 1978. Other stage performances include “Pirates of Penzance”, “Rasputin”, “The Great River” and “HMS Pinafore”. English also had early TV roles on shows like Matlock Police, Homicide and Helicopter Squad. From 1990 to 1993, he played “Bobby Rivers” on the sitcom All Together Now.
As a solo artist, English released his debut album Wine Dark Sea in March 1973. The album featured the singles “Handbags and Gladrags” and “Close Every Door”. Other notable albums include Headwind, Calm Before the Storm and InRoads. Popular singles from the English language include “Flip the Page”, “Not Enough Words” and “Six Ribbons”. He has won the Artist of the Year “Mo Award” three times (1983, 1984, 1985).

Jon English passed away on March 9, 2016 at the age of 66. His cause of death was reportedly a complication of surgery for an aortic aneurysm. English was married to “Carmen Sora” from 1969 to 2006. He is survived by his partner Corelea Cameron and his four children, Jessamin, Josephine, Jonnie and Julian. Jon English is 6 feet 2 inches tall.
