He initially focused on being a surfer, but after his parents sent him to a small private school, he started reading all he could get his hands on. After graduating from the USC School of Film and Television, he got his first job, working in the story department of American International Pictures. By the late 1970s, he had become one of Hollywood’s most successful screenwriters. He then started adding directing and production credits to his resume. Some of his screenwriting credits include Dirty Harry, Jeremiah Johnson, Magnum Force, Dillinger, Wind and Lion, Apocalypse Now, Savage Conan Man”, “Red Dawn”, and “Purge and the Present Danger”.
