John Henderson was born in Nashville, Tennessee in 1979 and played college football for the Tennessee Volunteers. The 6-foot-7, 335-pound defensive tackle was a much-touted high schooler who won the 2000 Outland Trophy and was a national SEC honorary in 2000 and 2001. All-American honors in the same two seasons.
The Jacksonville Jaguars selected Henderson with the ninth overall pick in the first round of the 2002 NFL Draft. He played in Jacksonville from 2002 to 2009, becoming a force on the defensive line alongside teammate Marcus Stroud. Henderson, also known as Big Hen or Big John, later played for the Oakland Raiders from 2010 to 2011. Henderson played in the Pro Bowl twice, in 2004 and 2006, and earned All-Pro Second Team honors in 2006. He ended his career with 493 tackles, 44 defensive passes, 29 quarterback sacks and 8 forced turnovers in 146 games. He started 125 of them.
