Joe Santos is an American film and television actor, best known for his role in The Rockford Files. He was born Joseph Minieri on June 9, 1931 in Brooklyn, New York. His parents are Joseph and Rose Minieri. Santos attended Fordham University, where he played football. Before his acting career, he worked in a range of jobs (railroad worker, tree trimmer, bar owner).

Santos made his debut in the 1964 film Meat and Lace. The film was written and directed by his cousin “Joseph W. Sarno”. Santos often plays the role of “The Good Cop” in his films. His first police role was “Detective Hank” in the 1966 TV series Moonlight Wife. He has appeared in more than 20 films, including Shaft’s Big Score, Shamus, Sinatra and Mo’ Money.
Santos rose to prominence in the mid-1970s with his starring role on the TV series The Rockford Files. From 1974 to 1980 he played the character “Dennis Becker”. He later played “Frank Harper” in the action drama series Harcastle and McCormick. Other notable TV shows include MacGyver, Magnum PI and The Sopranos.
