Joe McKnight is an American professional football player who has played for the NFL and CFL. At 5-foot-11, he’s a running back or return specialist. McKnight was born Joseph Nathan McKnight on April 16, 1988, in Kenner, Louisiana. His mother is Jennifer and he has two siblings, Jonathan and Johanna. McKnight attended John Curtis Christian High School and then the University of Southern California. Before finishing his degree, he was drafted into the NFL.

McKnight started his football career at John Curtis Christian High School. He played cornerback in his first year. He is also competitive in the 100-meter sprint. McKnight recorded 711 rushing yards, 735 receiving yards and 27 touchdowns as a senior. His high school honors include the Parade All-American MVP, All-American First Team and All-American Super Reserve. The team won three consecutive state 2A championships from 2004 to 2006. McKnight continued his football career at USC. He played three seasons with the USC Trojans from 2007 to 2009. They won the 2008 Rose Bowl with a final 49-17 victory over Illinois in Illinois.
McKnight was selected by the New York Jets with the 112th overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft. He signed a rookie contract in June 2010 and made his debut on October 3, 2010 against the Buffalo Bills. McKnight was named the All-Pro team’s counter-kick in January 2012. He was released by the Jets in August 2013. McKnight signed a one-year, $645,000 contract with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2014. He has been sidelined for most of the season due to injury. He later joined the Canadian Football League, where he played for the Edmonton Eskimos and later the Saskatchewan Cavalry.

Joe McKnight passed away on December 1, 2016 at the age of 28. He was shot and killed in a road rage incident in Terrytown, Louisiana. His killer Ronald Gasser was arrested and charged with manslaughter.
