Joe Barton is an American politician and a member of the Republican Party. He currently serves as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives for the 6th District of Texas. He served as Chairman of the Energy Committee of the House of Representatives from 2004 to 2007. Joe Linus Barton was born on September 15, 1949 in Waco, Texas. His parents are Bess Wynell Buice and Larry Linus Barton. He has two living brothers and sisters, Louis and Elizabeth. His brother Jon died of cancer in 2000. Button graduated from Waco High School. He received a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from Texas A&M University in 1972 and a master’s degree in industrial management from Purdue University in 1973.

He trailed Kay Bailey Hutchison and Bob Kruger in third place. From February 2004 to January 2007, he served as Chairman of the Energy Committee of the House of Representatives. Barton established the Barton Family Foundation in 2005 to support charities in the 6th District of Texas. The organization has received a monetary donation from Exelon Corporation.
