Mora’s coaching career began at his alma mater, where he served as a graduate assistant in 1984, and later with the NFL’s San Diego Chargers. In 1992, the New Orleans Saints hired Mora as their defensive backs coach, and Mora worked on the sidelines of the Big Easy with his father, Jim Mora Sr. Mora later coached the San Francisco 49ers and was eventually promoted to defensive coordinator in 1999. In 2004, he got his first head coaching opportunity as head of the Atlanta Falcons. Mora worked as an assistant head coach and defensive backs coach with the Seattle Seahawks in 2007 before promoting him to head coach for a season in 2009. After a stint from coaching in 2010 and 2011, Mora worked as a broadcaster before UCLA hired him as head coach. Midway through the 2014 season, he had a 28-10 college head coaching record.
