Jerry Granville was born in Perrysburg, Ohio in October 1941. As a football player, Granville was a linebacker who played for Northern Michigan University.
His coaching career began in 1967 as a defensive coordinator at Western Kentucky. From 1968 to 1973, Granville was Georgia Tech’s defensive end and outside linebacker coach. His first NFL coaching job was with the Detroit Lions as a defensive assistant and special teams coach. 1974-1976. Granville was the defensive backs coach for the Atlanta Falcons from 1977 to 1978 and the defensive coordinator from 1979 to 1982. In 1993, he was the defensive backs coach for the Buffalo Bills. Granville served as the Houston Oilers’ defensive coordinator from 1986 to 1989 and their head coach from 1990 to 1993. He was Hawaii’s defensive coordinator from 2005-2006 and Portland State’s head coach from 2007-2009. As an analyst, he has worked on HBO’s Inside the NFL, CBS’ The NFL Today, CBS’ NFL and Fox’s NFL. Granville participated in the Racing Club at Speedway of America.
