Early life and career
Jeannie Mai was born in San Jose, California in 1979 to parents Olivia and James. Her mother is of Vietnamese descent and her father is of Chinese-Vietnamese descent. As a teenager, Mai went to Milpitas High School. By the age of 18, she had started her career as a makeup artist for MAC Cosmetics. Eventually, she traveled the world working for celebrities including Alicia Keys and Christina Aguilera. Just before that, Mai started dating rapper Jay Jenkins, better known by his stage name Jeezy. The two got engaged in March 2020 and married the following year.
Mai and her first husband live in a 2,400-square-foot cottage-style home in Los Angeles. The country home, renovated by interior designer Jinnie Choi, features unique details such as birdcage chandeliers, California redwood bar and reclaimed industrial components. Mai later bought a home in Atlanta, Georgia, where she married her husband Jay Jenkins intimately in the backyard.
