Jennifer Warnes was born in Anaheim, California in March 1947. She was offered a recording contract when she was 7, but her father turned it down. She sang in church and beauty pageants, and received an opera scholarship from Sacred Heart Academy.
Warnes sang “The Star-Spangled Banner” at the Los Angeles Shrine Auditorium at the age of nine. She signed with Parrot Records in 1968. She joined the cast of The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour in 1967. She met Leonard Cohen in 1971 and toured with his band. She has been guest vocalist and vocal arranger on many of Cohen’s albums.
