Jemele Hill is an American sports journalist and television personality. She currently co-hosts ESPN’s Sports Center. Before that, she worked for ESPN’s “He and She” and “Page 2.” Jemele Juanita Hill was born on December 21, 1975 in Detroit, Michigan. Her parents are Jerel Brickerson and Denise Dennard. Her father, Jarrell, had battled drug addiction. The family also endured a considerable amount of financial hardship. Growing up, Hill used exercise and writing to address the challenges his family faced. She attended Mumford High School, followed by Michigan State University. She graduated in 1997 with a degree in journalism and a minor in Spanish.

Hill began her career as a journalist in 1997. She briefly worked as a general assignment sports writer for the Raleigh News & Observer. In 1998, she won the North Carolina Press Association Award for writing about sports. Hill joined the Detroit Free Press in 1999 as a writer. During her tenure, she covered Michigan State football/basketball, the 2004 Summer Olympics and the NBA playoffs. From 2005 to 2006, she was a columnist for the Orlando Sentinel.
Hill joined ESPN in 2006 as a national columnist for ESPN.com. She has appeared on several ESPN shows, including SportsCenter, First Take, Outside the Lines and The Sports Reporters. During the 2012 college football season, she worked as a sideline reporter with Carter Blackburn and Rod Gilmore. She won the inaugural Mackenzie Cup at the 2007 Poynter Media Summit. From September 2011 to January 2017, Hill co-hosted the sports discussion show “His & Hers” with Michael Smith. The duo was known as the evening anchor for ESPN’s flagship show “Sports Central” in February 2017. Their show is called SC6 along with Michael and Jemeler. Hill is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ). In July 2016, she participated with President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama in Presidents and the People: A National Dialogue.
