Geoffrey Rush was born Geoffrey Roy Rush on July 6, 1951 in Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia. His mother, Merle, was a sales assistant in a department store, and his father, Roy, was an accountant in the Royal Australian Air Force. After his parents divorced in the mid-1950s, Jeffrey and his mother moved to Brisbane to live with them. Rush attended Everton Park State High School and then the University of Queensland, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in 1972.
