Jean-Paul Gaultier net worth
Jean-Paul Gaultier is a French fashion designer and creative director with a net worth of $300 million. Jean-Paul Gaultier was born on April 24, 1952. He grew up on the outskirts of Paris. His maternal grandmother introduced him to the fashion world. He never had formal training in fashion design, but sent sketches to stylists he admired. Pierre Cardin was one of the first major designers to recognize his talent. Pierre was so impressed with Gaultier’s paintings that he hired him as his assistant. Gaultier then went on to work for Jacques Esterel and Jean Patou before returning to Pierre Cardin. Gaultier launched his first solo collection in 1976. By the early 1980s, he was gaining accolades from fashion magazine editors. He introduced the world to what is now known as the “men’s skirt” and the infamous tapered bra worn by Madonna. In the early seventies, he began to cooperate with designer Pierre Cardin. As a couture designer, Gaultier collections are usually formal with a touch of eccentricity.
In the late 1980s, Gaultier launched Junior Gaultier, a low-priced collection aimed at young people. By the mid-nineties, the label was changed from Gaultier to JPG. In the late nineties, Gaultier achieved success with its haute couture collections. Due to the success of the haute couture collection, Gaultier was hired by Hermes as creative director in 2003, a position he held until 2010. Gaultier also designed costumes for the film, including The Fifth Element. He also designed outfits worn by Marilyn Manson, Madonna (for Blond Ambition and the 2006 Confessions tour) and Kylie Minogue.
A sought-after designer, Jean Paul’s fragrance line has also been very successful. In the early nineties, he launched his first fragrance for women, Classique, and within three years La Male for men. Both fragrances have proven to be successful – La Male is currently number one in Europe and popular in Australia and the US. These two fragrances are arguably the best fragrances in the Gaultier fragrance collection.
