Born in Atlanta, Georgia, Javaris Crittenton is a graduate of Southwestern Atlanta Christian College with a 3.5 GPA designation. He had a successful season at Georgia Tech before leaving to play in the NBA.
He was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers in 2007 and showed great potential in summer league. However, he was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies in early 2008. After less than a year with the Grizzlies, he was traded to the Washington Wizards. Unfortunately, he was suspended for one year after an altercation with team member Gilbert Arenas in which they held guns at each other in the locker room. His contract with the team was subsequently terminated. He signed with the Charlotte Bobcats but was released less than a month later, and after trying to play in China with the Zhejiang Guangsha Lions, he returned to the U.S. to play for the G League’s Dakota Wizards. Overall, Javaris earned more than $4 million while playing in the NBA. He was arrested in 2011 for the murder of a young woman, allegedly shot by Mr Crittenton when he fired at his looters. He eventually pleaded guilty to manslaughter and was sentenced to 23 years in prison.
